CANADIAN DEMAND FOR VMX SYSTEMS LEADS TO INCREASED MARKET SHARE

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 23 ~PRNewswire~ -- An increasing demand for VMX's advanced voice processing solutions has enabled the company to enlarge its share of the Canadian market. VMX(R) (NASDAQ-NMS: VMXI) systems represent about 14.6 percent of voice processing units shipped to Canada, making the company the third-largest supplier there, according to data compiled by International Data Corp. (IDC) Canada Ltd.
Market share north of the U.S. border is important because the Canadian voice processing market continues to experience strong growth. IDC said the market reached $77 million during 1991, an increase of 28.3 percent over 1990. The total number of systems shipped was up 46 percent.
"We continue to expand our direct sales effort and our distribution network in Canada because there are many opportunities there," said Ray Glynn, VMX's executive vice president, business development. "Small, medium-sized and large organizations in that market are recognizing the benefits of voice processing technology."
In June, VMX announced the establishment of a wholly owned Canadian subsidiary in Waterloo, Ontario, to meet the needs of Canadian customers for advanced voice processing solutions. VMX also expanded its distribution network across the country. VMX has been marketing products in Canada since 1988.
In Canada, VMX systems are used by Ernst & Young, CIBC Bank, The Toronto Blue Jays, NCR Canada, Kellogg Co., William M. Mercer, Sears Canada, Honeywell and others. The systems were installed and are supported by VMX Canadian Value-Adding-Resellers (VARs).
