CANADA'S LEADING VINTNERS COMPLETE CHAMPIONSHIP WINE-TASTING

CANADA'S LEADING VINTNERS COMPLETE CHAMPIONSHIP WINE-TASTING
Canada's leading vintners will compete two days of championship wine tasting from 4:30-7:30 p.m. today at the Detroit Press Club.
Canadian wines are generating an increasing number of articles from wine columnists and critics and have captured new-found respect at international wine competitions. A Canadian wine, for example, recently won first place at Vinexpo in Bordeaux, France, against competition from French, German and American wines.
Restaurateurs, wine distributors and connoisseurs rated more than 100 Canadian wines from 15 wineries during a day-long round of tastings at Detroit's Westin Hotel on Sunday.
A second round of tasting will take place with the same vintners this afternoon at the Detroit Press Club in the Renaissance Center. Participating wineries include: Brights, Cartier Cave Spring, Chateau des Charmes, Colio, D'Angelo, Henry of Pelham, Inniskillin, Pelee Island and Reif.
The competition will include a full selection of Canadian wines: Cabernet Sauvignons, Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, Rieslings and a variety of dessert wines.
Beginning at 4 p.m. today, a number of vintners, leading wine critics and Canadian trade officials will be available for interview in person or by phone from the Press Club. Contact Press Club Manager Flo Kerwin at 313-393-3090, or Jim Lyons, commercial officer for the Canadian Consulate General, 313-567-2341.
Detroit-area media representatives also are invited to attend the wine tasting itself. Please RSVP by calling the Detroit Press Club at 313-393-3090.
The Press Club also will accept dinner reservations after 7:30 p.m.
