 CAMPERS FIND EVERYTHING THEY NEED AT TARGET;
 VACATIONERS TRADE IN HOTEL ROOM KEYS FOR HAMMER AND STAKES
 MINNEAPOLIS, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- An alternative to high-priced vacations, camping is gaining ground as a popular way for families to spend time together in the outdoors. To meet the needs of the growing number of campers, Target Stores has expanded its camping merchandise and is now offering shoppers a large assortment of high-quality camping equipment at moderate prices.
 "Target offers campers everything they need at very affordable prices," said Joe Julius, senior buyer for Target's Outdoor Sports department. "In the camping industry, stores tend to offer either very serious and expensive camping equipment, or else they offer very little merchandise at all. Families can now come to a Target store, find all the supplies they'll need for a great camping trip, and walk out feeling good about the price."
 Camping assortments have not only been expanded, but also upgraded, according to Julius. "With the emphasis on family camping, we've added a two-person revised sleeping bag to our Greatland line of merchandise, with a top retail price of $90," he said. The two-person bag comes with two pillows and can be zipped apart to form two separate bags. All Greatland sleeping bags feature DuPont insulation and 100 percent cotton flannel liners, and come in a wide variety of colors and styles.
 Target has also expanded its tent line with the addition of three tents by Coleman, Julius said. One of the new tents Target now offers is a 10-by-16-foot two-room tent with both front and rear doors. Prices range from $30 to $300.
 In addition to sleeping bags and tents, Target has increased accessories and furniture assortments by 25 percent to fill the needs of almost all campers.
 "With today's economy, families are not taking the expensive vacations that they used to," Julius said. "There is a growing market of family campers, and we want to be the place where they shop."
 Minneapolis-based Target Stores is an upscale discount department store chain. By year end, 1992, Target will operate 508 stores in 32 states coast to coast. It is the largest division of Dayton Hudson Corporation, one of the nation's leading retailers.
