CAMPBELL ELECTED TO ADDITIONAL POSITION OF CEO AT PACIFIC LUMBER

 SCOTIA, Calif., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pacific Lumber Co. announced that John A. Campbell, president and a member of the board of directors of the company since 1989, has been elected to the additional position of chief executive officer.
 Campbell, 50, is a 24-year Pacific Lumber employee. He has held a broad range of managerial positions including vice president of wood products from 1982 to 1985, and executive vice president of wood products from 1985 to 1989.
 Educated in Australia, Campbell is married to the former Margaret DiGioia of Sacramento. He has two sons, Matthew and Michael, who attend Fortuna Union High School.
 Campbell has been active in a number of community and industry associations, including service on the boards of directors of Boy Scouts of America, Redwood Memorial Hospital, Vector Health Services and the California Forestry Association.
 Currently, Campbell serves on the boards of the Ingomar Club in Eureka, the Sacramento-based California Forest Products Commission and the American Forest and Paper Association in Washington, D.C.
 Pacific Lumber is a major producer of redwood and Douglas fir lumber. It is an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of MAXXAM Inc. (AMEX: MXM).
