PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Bancorp (NASDAQ: USBC) Chairman Roger L. Breezley today announced that the U.S. Bank of Oregon board of directors has elected one of U.S. Bancorp's two vice chairmen, Gerry Cameron, as chairman of the board of U.S. Bank of Oregon effective immediately. This new role will expand Cameron's current duties as the chairman of the executive committee of the board of U.S. Bank of Oregon.
Roger Breezley will continue as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of U.S. Bancorp. Edmund P. Jensen remains U.S. Bancorp vice chairman and chief operating officer. Kevin R. Kelly continues as U.S. Bancorp president. John D. Eskildsen will remain president and chief executive officer of U.S. Bank of Oregon.
"We are fortunate to have a person of Cameron's capabilities to assume this important role," Breezley stated. "Cameron has overseen branch banking and commercial lending activities in Oregon since January, therefore, he is a logical choice for chairman of U.S. Bank of Oregon's board. This change will allow me to fully devote my time and energy to the management of the holding company, which encompasses all of the operations of U.S. Bancorp and its subsidiaries."
Appointed vice chairman of U.S. Bancorp in January of 1993, Cameron was given responsibility for traditional bank and commercial lending services in U.S. Bancorp's Northwest markets. Prior to his election to the office of vice chairman, Cameron served as the president and chief executive officer of U.S. Bank of Washington, the second largest bank in the U.S. Bancorp family of companies, a position he assumed when U.S. Bank of Washington was formed following the acquisition of Old National Bank and People's Bank in 1987. Cameron has had a distinguished history at U.S. Bancorp. Before assuming primary accountability for activities in Washington in 1987, Cameron held a wide range of positions within the organization.
"I am very pleased to assume this additional role at U.S. Bank of Oregon, the company where I started my banking career 37 years ago," Cameron commented regarding his new title at U.S. Bancorp's flagship bank. "The success of our Oregon bank, led by the board of directors, has enabled U.S. Bancorp to expand into new markets. My appointment to the position of chairman of the board of U.S. Bank of Oregon is a natural continuation of the organizational changes made in January of this year."
Cameron attended the University of Oregon and is a graduate of Portland State University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He is an honor graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington and has completed the Stanford Executive Program at Stanford University.
U.S. Bank of Oregon is a subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp, the largest bank holding company headquartered in the Northwest.
