CALUM CHAMBERS is in the frame for a first England call-up as Roy Hodgson begins to plot for Euro 2016.

The Three Lions boss will continue to put faith in the country's youngsters and Chambers, 19, is likely to get the nod for the next squad - to be captained by Wayne Rooney - after making an impressive start to his Arsenal career.

The versatile defender has not yet even figured for England Under-21s but, since joining the Gunners from Southampton, he has looked composed and assured.

It is understood Hodgson was particularly impressed with his Champions League display against Besiktas and is now preparing to call on him.

The manager will make final decisions on his squad for matches against Norway and Switzerland when he meets with his backroom staff early this week - but Chambers' Emirates team-mates Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can expect key roles.

Steven Gerrard has retired from international football and as a result Wilshere can expect to fill his place in midfield.

Hodgson is keen for Wilshere to establish himself as a regular starter, while Oxlade-Chamberlain will be back in the squad after missing the World Cup through injury.

Frank Lampard's future will also be discussed.

Hodgson is considering whether he should keep the Manchester City summer signing among his ranks to help the younger players, or if he should make a fresh start without the ex-Chelsea man.

Tottenham's Andros Townsend is also likely to come back into contention for the Three Lions as the winger returns from being sidelined with injury.

Rooney will be announced as captain on Thursday when Hodgson names his squad for the September double-header.

Gerrard's decision to step down left Hodgson with a leadership dilemma - but the fact that Rooney is now Manchester United skipper has made the situation a lot easier.
