CALPINE NAMES ANN CURTIS SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 19 /PRNewsire/ -- Ann Curtis has been promoted to senior vice president of Calpine Corp., one of the nation's leading independent power producers, it was announced today. In her new position, Curtis will continue to manage the company's financial and administrative functions and will be responsible for long-range corporate planning, operational and capital budgets and risk management. Curtis directs the departments of general counsel, corporate finance and accounting, project finance, human relations, public relations and land management.
"Since we founded Calpine in 1984, Ann has been an integral part of our continued success in the independent power industry. I am delighted to announce her well-earned promotion," stated the company's president, Peter Cartwright. Curtis is one of a number of women holding executive positions at Calpine. "It is particularly gratifying to see women moving ahead in what has been largely a male-dominated industry," Cartwright commented.
Formerly vice president of management and financial services, Curtis has more than 14 years of experience in the power industry. She has contributed to the successful financial closing of more than $500 million in power projects, including Calpine's $227-million geothermal acquisition in The Geysers, Calif. Prior to joining Calpine, she was manager of administration of the western regional office of Gibbs & Hill Inc., a major architect engineering office based in San Jose.
Calpine is a leading developer, owner and operator of cogeneration and geothermal facilities throughout the United States. In addition to 150 MW of gas-fired cogeneration projects, the company owns an interest in and operates several geothermal power plants and steam fields totalling in excess of 350 MW. With these projects in place, Calpine will produce sufficient power to supply a community of 750,000 -- about the size of San Jose, Calif. The company is currently negotiating to develop the 150 MW Coso geothermal project for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power in Southern California.
