CALLOUS THIEF RAIDS WIDOW OF 4x4 VICTIM; Ordeal for wife of murdered Jimmy EXCLUSIVE.

Byline: Gary Fanning

THE heartbroken widow of a man killed trying to stop a thief stealing his 4x4 has had her home raided by a burglar.

Minnie Simpson, 74, whose husband Jimmy was murdered in November 2011, vowed that her break-in ordeal won't force her out of her home.

She has also revealed she has bought a white Range Rover - similar to the 4x4 stolen on the fateful night - in memory of Jimmy and the registration plate has his name on it.

Jimmy, 76, was killed by serial car thief Christopher Grenfell, who was sentenced to at least 17 years.

He drove over the brave OAP as he tried to stop his black Land Rover Discovery being stolen from his driveway.

Grieving Minnie, of Ashgill, near Hamilton, said her home was targeted earlier this month as she slept upstairs.

The thief escaped with her purse, about PS50 in cash and a watch.

She told our sister paper the Hamilton Advertiser: "I could see muddy footprints on the living room carpet and realised that an intruder had been in the house.

"I am not letting this put me off staying here. My son wanted me to move to Glasgow but I have so many great friends here."

Security has now been stepped up at her home.

Minnie added: "Detectives are treating it as a serious crime.

"The police have been a great comfort to me and I can't speak highly enough about their support."

Minnie's new Range Rover is parked in the same spot in the driveway where Jimmy left his 4x4.

She said: "I bought the car as a memento to Jimmy and it has his name on the number plate.

"I am lucky that I have a wonderful son who would do anything for me and friends who have really saved me.

"You can't let people like that ruin your life."

Police confirmed they are investigating a break-in at a house in Ashgill which happened overnight between August 11 and 12.

A spokesman added: "Detective Sergeant Bob Bryce is leading the investigation and has appealed for anybody with information to contact him on 101."
