 CALLAWAY GOLF CO. COMMENCES LITIGATION
CARLSBAD, Calif., April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is being

issued by Callaway Golf Co.:
Callaway Golf Co. (NYSE: ELY) announced today that it has filed a lawsuit in federal district court in San Diego against Robert Elton Lucia, the founder and owner of Nevada Bob's Pro Shop Inc. of Las Vegas and his corporation, seeking a court determination that the marketing practices employed by Callaway Golf to promote the sale of its golf clubs nationwide do not violate the antitrust laws.
Donald H. Dye, vice chairman and chief operating officer of Callaway Golf, stated: "This action is the result of threats made by Mr. Lucia over the past two weeks that accuse our company of illegal competitive practices. In discussions that took place within the past several days, Mr. Lucia made demands on Callaway Golf for changes to our sales and distribution policies as well as for payment of $6.5 million in damages to avoid litigation. We believe these demands are without merit. Our nationwide sales and distribution policies are reasonable efforts to maintain the quality image of Callaway golf clubs in the market place. It is unfortunate that we are forced to resolve this matter through litigation, but we are fully prepared to demonstrate the lawfulness of our sales and distribution policies in court if necessary."
Callaway Golf designs, develops, manufactures and markets high- quality innovative golf clubs. Callaway's primary products currently include oversized Big Bertha(R) metal woods, conventional-sized S2H2(R) metal woods, S2H2(R) irons and Callaway Hickory Stick(R) wedges and putters.
