KANSAS CITY, Mo., Oct. 25, /PRNewswire/ -- The California Hotel and Motel Association (CH&MA), the largest such group in the United States, has signed a new contract with Sprint (NYSE: FON) to provide long- distance services to its members and their guests.
The new pact renews an expiring contract for another two years. It allows the association to offer a wide range of telecommunications services and options to its member properties at special discount rates.
"We began this program two years ago with Sprint and our members have been very happy with it," said Jim Abrams, the executive vice president of the CH&MA. "In fact, when we informed our members last month at our 100th anniversary convention that we had signed a new contract with Sprint, they literally broke into spontaneous applause.
"This is the type of member service that makes life a little easier and more cost efficient while ensuring the very best in service," Abrams concluded.
"I had nothing but problems with my old provider in charging my guests too much, as well as guest complaints," added Jerry Sulliger, general manager of the 100-room Shattuck Hotel in Berkeley, which joined the CH&MA/Sprint program more than a year ago. "The service I receive from Sprint is top of the line, and the Sprint operator can provide to my guests information about the hotel."
The Sacramento-based association represents approximately 1,000 hotels, motels, bed and breakfast inns, resorts, guest ranches and other lodging facilities across the Golden State. Under the exclusive endorsement contract just renewed, Sprint offers CH&MA members access to 1-plus service for room phones, operator services and 800 services in addition to such things as answer detect, SprintFAX and voice mail options.
"Sprint is the only major long-distance carrier with a separate organization devoted to the hospitality market, and that experience shows up in agreements like this," said Rich Kalbrener, the president of the Sprint Hospitality Group.
"We're offering the CH&MA members not only savings, but the convenience of true one-stop shopping. You can't beat the combination."
Sprint is a diversified international telecommunications company with more than $10 billion in annual revenues and the United States' only nationwide all-digital, fiber-optic network. Its divisions provide global long distance voice, data and video products and services, local telephone services to nearly 6 million subscriber lines in 19 states, and cellular operations that serve 42 metropolitan markets and more than 50 rural service areas.
