 CALIFORNIA ENERGY APPOINTS MASON AS VICE PRESIDENT
 OF PROJECT DEVELOPMENT AND OPERATIONS
 OMAHA, Neb., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- California Energy Company, Inc. (AMEX, PSE: CE) today announced the appointment of Tom Mason to the position of vice president of project development and operations. Mason joined the company in March 1991 as vice president and general manager of the company's Coso, California operations and since then, assumed responsibility for all operating facilities. In his new position, Mason will continue direct responsibility for operations, in addition to assuming responsibility for projects currently under development and initiating new business opportunities.

Over the past year, Tom has made a significant contribution initiating the operational improvements evident at Coso and our other generating facilities which produced record revenues in 1991. With Tom's technical expertise, proven project management record, and his business development background, we are excited at the prospect of him leading the project development team to new project and acquisition opportunities."
 Mason has a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and over 30 years of experience in the energy industry. Prior to joining CECI, Mason was vice president and general manager of Kiewit Energy Company responsible for developing all aspects of non-utility power generation business. Previous to Kiewit, he was with Energy Factors where he was responsible for business development and marketing. Mason's prior experience also includes a broad range of assignments at Solar Turbines, Inc., and with Commonwealth Edison.
 California Energy Company develops environmentally responsible power generating facilities. The company operates five facilities currently producing in excess of 250 megawatts.
