CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES: STATE REVOKES COMMUNITY CARE LICENSES OF MORENO VALLEY WOMAN

SACRAMENTO, Calif., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The California Department of Social Services has revoked the family day care license of Michelle D. Helms as a result of charges of inadequate supervision and violation of personal rights of children in her care, the department said today.
"Most family day care homes in California provide nurturing, supportive care for children," said Eloise Anderson, director of the department. "However, when we find day care operators who are abusive or neglectful in caring for their clients, it's essential we protect the children by closing them down."
Helms declined to request a hearing after her facility was closed following temporary suspension of her license by the department on Feb. 5, 1993, as a result of charges of child neglect and improper supervision.
Family day care homes provide care for youngsters who need short- term, temporary care outside their homes. They are licensed through the department's Community Care Licensing Division, in accordance with the state's Health and Safety Code. More than 48,700 family day care homes are licensed in California serving more than 356,600 children, with more than 2,430 homes in Riverside County providing out-of-home day care for more than 17,900 children.
