 ADDS VICE PRESIDENTS OF RETAIL AND FOOD SERVICE SALES
 DAVIS, Calif., July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Calgene Fresh Inc. today announced the appointments of James Gerecke as its vice president of retail sales and Cynthia M. Seik as its vice president of food service sales. Prior to his appointment with Calgene Fresh, Gerecke, 41, most recently served as national sales manager of Land O'Lakes, a $2.4 billion dairy products and agriculture company serving the retail grocery and food service industries throughout the United States. Joining Land O'Lakes in 1977, Gerecke also served in several field and corporate sales positions including district and product sales manager. He holds a B.A. degree from Clarion State College and an M.S. degree in administration from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
 Seik, 41, most recently served as executive vice president -- Contract Sales Division of Richelieu Group Inc., a holding company for food manufacturing operations that market branded and private label products. Prior to joining Richelieu Group in 1987, Seik served as director, National Account Sales for Kitchens of Sara Lee -- Food Service Division, a unit of Sara Lee Corp., the $12.4 billion branded consumer products company. She holds a B.S. degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. degree in marketing from Michigan State University.

 Seik and Gerecke join Churchwell, a Calgene Inc. director and former vice president of sales and marketing for The NutraSweet Co., and three former members of Calgene Inc.'s management team -- Daniel O. Wagster II, formerly vice president -- finance and planning and CFO, will serve as vice president of operations and CFO; Stephen C. Benoit, formerly vice president -- strategic planning, will serve as vice president of marketing; and William R. Hiatt, Ph.D., formerly director of post-harvest physiology, will serve as vice president of research and development.

 Calgene Fresh, a wholly owned subsidiary of Calgene Inc. (NASDAQ: CGNE), was formed in January 1992 to develop, distribute and sell fresh produce. Its initial product, FLAVR SAVR tomatoes, will feature fresh tomato varieties genetically modified to deliver home- grown tomato flavor on a year-round basis.
