 CAERE CORP. AND DELRINA TECHNOLOGY INK FAX/OCR AGREEMENT;
 INDUSTRY LEADERS TO GROW PC FAX/OCR MARKET
 LOS GATOS, Calif., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Caere(R) Corp. (NASDAQ: CAER) and Delrina Technology Inc. (TSE: DC) announced today that they have signed an agreement aimed at significantly broadening the market for PC fax/OCR software. Terms of the technology partnership call for Caere to provide its AnyFax(TM) neural optical character recognition (OCR) technology, specifically designed to convert standard or low-resolution faxes into editable text, for future versions of Delrina's market leading fax software, WinFax PRO(TM).
 "The united forces of Delrina's and Caere's technical strengths and marketing clout will bring significant new capabilities to fax customers," commented Judith A. Pirani, director of image communication systems service for the market research firm BIS Strategic Decisions. "The combined complementary technologies of the two companies will greatly enhance the usability of PC fax products and help grow the market."
 The significance of the announcement to current and new PC fax users and its anticipated role in growing the market is further evidenced by the continued pervasiveness of computer fax, fueled largely by the emergence of low-cost fax modems and new applications. According to a recent U.S. facsimile report compiled by BIS Strategic Decisions, fax boards were being placed last year at the rate of more than 1.1 million units and fax transmissions topped 2 billion for PC fax. BIS analysts predict the total market for fax board and stand-alone fax board software to reach $1.4 billion in annual revenues by 1996.
 "Teaming with market leader Delrina allows both companies to provide advanced fax recognition capabilities to current and future fax users," said John Migliore, Caere's executive vice president and chief operating officer. "As the two market leaders, both companies are committed to expanding the application and productivity benefits of PC fax solutions."
 "Caere's breakthrough AnyFax OCR expands the appeal of PC fax software beyond viewing to converting faxes into editable documents," added Mark Skapinker, president of Delrina. "AnyFax is the first neural network OCR technology which can do fax-to-text conversion with a high degree of accuracy. This agreement is further evidence of Delrina's commitment to team with market leaders such as Caere to grow the PC fax market."
 AnyFax -- Advanced Recognition Technology
 Caere's AnyFax OCR Technology offers the most accurate recognition for both standard and fine-mode faxes and is the first product designed to overcome the OCR limitations presented by poor-quality fax documents. OCR has historically generated unacceptable results on low-resolution faxes, which are sent at a resolution of only 200 x 100 dots per inch. Based on new neural net technology, AnyFax intelligently interprets the information lost during low-resolution fax transmission and recognizes characters based on weighted probabilities.
 By combining Caere's new AnyFax OCR technology with Delrina's award- winning fax software, users will be able to receive, store and convert incoming faxes, which are received as images, into text. Text can then be accessed and edited as files from within word processing, spreadsheet or other text-based applications, enabling office professionals to more easily and accurately incorporate faxed images in documents.
