CAERE AND ALCOM ANNOUNCE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP TO GROW NETWORK FAX MARKET; TECHNOLOGY AND MARKETING AGREEMENT TO EXPAND PRODUCT LINES
NETWORLD DALLAS, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Caere(R) Corp. (NASDAQ: CAER) and Alcom today announced they have signed an agreement aimed at significantly bolstering the capabilities of both company's fax software solutions. Terms of the technology and marketing alliance call for Caere to include network capabilities in future fax products and for Alcom to leverage FaxMaster(TM) as the front end for their LanFax(TM) local area network (LAN) fax software.
"Teaming with Alcom will allow Caere to expand the utilization of FaxMaster particularly in corporate environments," said Vallance Cole, senior product marketing manager for Caere. "Leveraging Alcom's expertise in LAN faxing will enable Caere to bring significant added benefits to our FaxMaster customers operating in workgroup environments, such as fax board sharing, document routing and network traffic management. This alliance is an important step in our efforts to grow the market for PC fax and establish FaxMaster as the premier Windows fax solution."
"We're delighted to work with the leader in OCR technology," said Stephen McBride, vice president of sales for Alcom. "Caere's state-of- the-art technologies and marketing clout will help Alcom further enhance the capabilities of LanFax and broaden the appeal of LAN fax solutions to corporate customers."
 Best in Class Products
Caere's FaxMaster is the most complete Windows fax software solution, the only product that allows users to send, receive, OCR and compress fax documents. FaxMaster overcomes many of the limitations of the current generation of computer-based fax software by accurately recognizing faxes sent on standard settings, efficiently storing fax images, and enabling direct fax sending and receiving from within popular desktop applications. The product has received wide acclaim among early users and resellers, such as Ingram Micro, since its introduction at PC Expo in June.
Alcom's LanFax Redirector allows multiple users to access fax boards on a network server and features sophisticated printing and archiving capabilities. LanFax's Windows compatibility also lets the user manage fax activities such as distribution lists and incoming faxes through DOS or Windows environments.
In addition to offering LanFax server software with its own user interface, Alcom openly publishes its Applications Programmer Interface for developers, VARS and MIS managers to develop their own front-end to Alcom's powerful LanFax Redirector server software. This Interface allows MIS directors, VARS, and OEM's to address vertical market or specific corporate communications needs by substituting their own customer user interfaces using simple programming procedures.
