CADENCE CREATES UNIT DEDICATED TO JAVA.

EDA outfit Cadence Design Systems Inc has created a division to build system-on-a-chip solutions for information appliances using Sun Microsystems Inc's picoJava chip designs and Java software technologies. It has 40 people working on Java projects now and will have more than 100 dedicated by year-end. Cadence's notion is that it will integrate Java with other blocks of IP. Sun says its view of the appliance market is much the same as IBM's, that in a pervasive computing world services will be delivered to any appliance regardless of host or client environment and that users will be able to access their familiar services from any device.
