CABOT SIGNS NIGERIAN LNG CONTRACT

 CABOT SIGNS NIGERIAN LNG CONTRACT
BOSTON, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Cabot Corporation (NYSE: CBT) has

announced the signing of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) supply contract by one if its subsidiaries, Distrigas Corporation, and Nigeria LNG Ltd.
Nigeria represents the first new source of LNG supply in the Atlantic LNG trade in over 20 years. The contract calls for the importation of 9.5 cargoes of LNG a year, the sales volume equivalent of 70,000 MMBtus of LNG per day (70 million cubic feet) into the Distrigas LNG Import Terminal at Everett, Mass. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 1997 and will extend through 2020. The contract provides for an important new supply of energy that will support the region's development.
Cabot will use its own LNG tanker, purchased in 1991, to transport the cargoes between Nigeria and Boston, a journey of 5,300 miles that takes approximately 12 days.
The LNG will be marketed to U.S. customers by a Distrigas Corporation affiliate, Distrigas of Massachusetts Corporation (DOMAC), which operates the Everett terminal. U.S. government approvals of the contract are expected by late summer.
Distrigas Corporation is a subsidiary of Cabot Corporation, a Fortune 300 Company with operations in specialty chemicals and materials, and energy.
