CABOT OIL & GAS ANNOUNCES NEW SENIOR EXECUTIVE

 HOUSTON, Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. (NYSE: COG) today announced that John U. Clarke has joined the company as executive vice president, chief financial officer and chief administrative officer, effective Aug. 16. Clarke succeeds Roger J. Klatt, who has resigned from the company effective the end of August.
 Cabot Oil & Gas Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John H. Lollar said, "We are delighted to have Mr. Clarke join the company. His experience, good standing in the financial community, and demonstrated leadership skills make him a strong addition to our management team. We anticipate that Mr. Clarke's strategic understanding of the oil and gas business and his expertise in corporate finance will enable him to make a valuable contribution to the company's future growth." Lollar also noted that "Roger Klatt was a key player in effecting COG's successful transition to a public company, and we wish him well in his future endeavors."
 Prior to joining Cabot Oil & Gas, Clarke held financial management positions of increasing responsibility at Transco Energy Co. from 1981 to June 1993 and was most recently senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer. From 1977 to 1981, he was employed by Tenneco, Inc.
 Clarke earned a master of business administration degree with a principal concentration in finance from Southern Methodist University and received his bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Texas.
