CABOT CORPORATION APPOINTS TWO DIRECTORS

 BOSTON, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Cabot Corporation (NYSE: CBT) has announced the election of Arnold S. Hiatt and Jane C. Bradley to its board of directors. The appointments are effective today.
 Hiatt, who retired in 1992 as chairman of the Stride Rite Corporation, currently serves as chairman of the Stride Rite Foundation. Hiatt's association with the company began in 1969. Among the directorships he holds is the Dreyfus Corp. in New York. He also serves as Trustee of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the John Merck Fund and Northeastern University, all in Boston; as a member of the Higher Education Coordinating Council of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; and as chairman of the Visiting Committee, Graduate School of Education, Harvard University.
 Hiatt has received numerous honors during his career, including Columbia University's Lawrence A. Wien Prize in Corporate Social Responsibility; the Roger Baldwin Award from the Massachusetts Civil Liberties Union; the "Good Guys" Award from the National Women's Political Caucus; and Harvard University's Dively Award.
 Bradley serves as director of the Fiduciary Trust Co., Boston. In addition, she has been active in a variety of academic, cultural and community organizations since graduating from Radcliffe College in Cambridge, Mass. Currently, she is Trustee Emerita of the Boston Symphony Orchestra; vice chairman of the board of trustees of the Boston Museum of Science; Trustee of the Wang Center for the Performing Arts in Boston, a member of the corporation of the Massachusetts General Hospital; a member of the visiting committee to Music and Performing Arts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and a Trustee of the Trustees of Reservations.
 With the appointment of Hiatt and Bradley, Cabot's board of director membership totals 15. The Boston-based, Fortune 300 company has global operations in specialty chemicals and materials, and energy.
