CABLE TV PIONEER CHANNELMATIC INTRODUCES
THE FIRST DIGITAL LOCAL AD INSERTION SYSTEM
ALPINE, Calif., June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Channelmatic Inc., the leading manufacturer of television automation products for the cable television industry, leads in the race to deliver digital video commercial/program insertion systems. The first such system, dubbed Adcart/D, recently made headlines with its debut at the 1992 National Cable Television convention. The Adcart/D is designed to replace videotape-based playback/insertion systems currently in use in cable TV system operations. This digital video system encodes full motion audio/video as digital data, which is stored until needed, and then decoded back into analog audio/video for insertion into on-air programs.
Channelmatic developed the Adcart/D in response to the growing demand for digital-based systems in cable operations. The Adcart/D provides improved reliability over videotape-based systems, scalable on-air audio/video quality, and operational simplicity, all at prices that are comparable, or lower than, VCR-based technology. "Our conservative estimates indicate than an Adcart/D system will cost 9 percent less than a comparable four-channel, eight-VCR Betacam system," claims Channelmatic's President David Castellini. "This equates to a savings for operators of $40,000 to $112,000 per year."
Adcart/D performs local, regional, national and satellite- delivered ad insertion or program playback on an unlimited number of channels. Wholly compatible with existing Adcart systems, Adcart/D can be installed as an expansion unit, or to initiate new insertion/playback operations for cable, broadcast, medical, corporate and education TV applications. Adcart/D is available in three versions, related to audio/video quality: Betacam (one-inch), U-Matic SP, and U-Matic/VHS-HQ, all with CD-quality audio. Channelmatic has selected the MPEG (Motion Picture Experts Group) algorithm to drive its digital compression process.
Channelmatic, a privately held company located 30 miles east of San Diego, has been designing and manufacturing electronic products for television and video for 17 years. Its reputation for innovative solutions to television automation challenges has been re-affirmed with the introduction of the Adcart/D.
