CABLE COMPANIES, ROCKLAND TEACHERS' CENTER, ROCKLAND BOCES & SUNY UNITE TO BRING "REGENTS REVIEW...LIVE!" TO STUDENTS THROUGHOUT NEW YORK STATE

GARNERVILLE, N.Y., May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- In an exceptional effort to bring live instruction and review of Regents examinations for students throughout New York State, Continental Cablevision, TKR Cable and Cablevision have teamed up with the Rockland Teachers' Center, Rockland BOCES and the State University of New York for "Regents Review...LIVE!" -- five cablecasts to be shown via satellite May 23 through June 2.
With segments introduced by local students, teachers from various school districts will each host a two-hour program dedicated to a particular subject to help students study for their Regents exams. Each teacher will also suggest test-taking strategies. Students are encouraged to participate in the program by calling a hotline number while the shows are in progress.
The toll-free phone number to call is: 1-800-564-2101.
The programs will originate from the studios of Continental Cablevision of New York, located in Ossining. Also donating their time and expertise are TKR Cable of Rockland/Ramapo and Cablevision in Yorktown, all with additional cooperation and support from the Cable Television Association of New York (CTANY).
"This is the sixth year we've been offering Regents instruction with the invaluable help of our neighboring cable television companies," says Peg Pawlyk, coordinator of the Dial-A-Teacher Program at the Rockland Teachers' Center. "By utilizing this technology, cable enables us to simultaneously tutor a multitude of students right in their own homes."
Says SUNY Associate Vice Chancellor for Technology Services Christine E. Haile, "SUNY is pleased to be part of Regents Review...LIVE!" Successful completion of Regents courses is a good way to prepare for college or for a job. Regents Review...LIVE! is a natural complement to Chancellor Johnstone's efforts to encourage students to take challenging courses while in high school."
All "Regents Review...Live!" programs will be distributed live via satellite to cable systems throughout New York State and will air on Community or Educational Access Channels.
Continental Cablevision will air the programs on its Community Channel 6, TKR Cable will air them on Channel 19 Rockland and Channel 41 Ramapo, and Cablevision's programs will be seen on Channel 34. For channel assignment and scheduling on other cable television systems in the state, students should consult their local cable guides and newspapers for listings or call their cable companies.
