CABLE & WIRELESS TO BUY WANG NETWORK SERVICES
VIENNA, Va., Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Wang Laboratories, Inc., and

Cable & Wireless Communications, Inc., today jointly announced that Cable & Wireless Communications has agreed to purchase Network Services, a division of Wang Information Services Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Wang
Laboratories, Inc., for approximately $11 million. The acquisition is expected to be finalized by the end of the year.
According to C. Peyser stated the company will begin merging the two networks immediately. However, Cable & Wireless Communications will continue to operate Network Services from its current headquarters location in Lowell, Mass., to improve operating efficiencies.
Network Services utilizes packet switches located in 28 U.S. cities as well as in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, France, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, Belgium, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden. Network Services also offers access to approximately 70 additional countries.
Network Services was established by Wang in 1985 to design, manage and support wide area data communications solutions. Network Services operates WangPac, a global data network, providing X.25, SNA and Asynchronous connectivity. It offers high speed wide area LAN internetworking and image application networking through its CommServer router/bridge/gateway products and Frame Relay/X.25 integrated service. Network Services also offers application solutions through its VS-based EDI translation and management software and implementation consulting services and access to leading online information services for database research, X.400-based E-mail and EDI networking through its DataConnect Service. Network Services customers include many of the world's leading organizations in such fields as law, banking, insurance, brokerage, manufacturing, distribution, government, health care and transportation.
Cable & Wireless Communications, Inc., the nation's largest business-to-business long distance company, is a subsidiary of Cable & Wireless plc (NYSE: CWP), a multi-national telecommunications organization with operations in 50 countries. The company provides a comprehensive range of switched, private line and managed data services via an all-digital fiber optic network which stretches from coast to coast.
