Murdered taxi driver Eileen Costello-O'Shaughnessy died from a severe injury to the back of her head.

The brutal details of the mum's death were revealed last night after a preliminary post mortem.

Although no murder weapon has been found Gardai say robbery now appears to be the motive.

Chief Superintendent Tom Monaghan said that "extreme and violent force" was used in a "most disturbing" crime. One of the biggest manhunts ever in Galway is under way with more than 60 cops tracking the killer of 47- year-old Eileen.

The part-time driver's body was found savagely beaten and dumped in a field on Sunday night.

Her blood-stained car had its meter ripped out. The search for the killer has been extended to a quarry two miles from the murder scene near the main Galway to Tuam road where blood was found. But no direct link with the murder has yet been made.

The daughter of the murdered cabbie is returning from Australia for the funeral. Suzanne Costello-O'Shaughnessy, 26, had just started a month's holiday when she heard the horrific news.
