C&W named to lease Chase Manhattan Plaza

Cushman & Wakefield, Inc, has been named leasing agent for One Chase Manhattan Plaza in downtown Manhattan.

Kenneth Dean, David Tewksbury and August Field of Cushman & Wakefield will represent Chase Manhattan Bank, the owner of the 2.1 million square foot building. The six-story tower and its two- and one-half-acre public plaza sit atop a full city block bounded by Pine, William, Liberty and Nassau Streets. The building, which is two-thirds occupied by Chase, serves as its world headquarters.

Over the next two years, the bank will invest more than $30 million in additional improvements. Plans call for remodeling the lobby and elevators, removing asbestos and upgrading the heating and cooling systems.

"This was the anchor building for the first wave of construction downtown in 1960," said Victor Castellano, vice president of real estate resources at Chase. "This renovation marks the start of a new era for the building."

The building contains 34,000 square foot column-free floors, and has modern technological, telecommunications and electronic capability.
