ByTheWay ...: the story of "Old Glory".

Saturday, June 14 marks the 98th celebration of Flag Day. How much do you know about this powerful symbol of freedom?

* President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation in 1916 calling for a nationwide observance of Flag Day, but it wasn't until 1949 that an act of Congress signed by President Harry Truman designated June 14 as Flag Day.

* June 14 was selected as Flag Day because it's the day the Second Continental Congress adopted the flag of the United States in 1777.

* The Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia has long been a site of many Flag Day celebrations and can be toured during August's National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Philadelphia.

* The Humphrys Flag Company in Philadelphia made the largest U.S. flag ever in 1992. It was 505 feet by 255 feet, weighed more than a ton and was displayed over Hoover Dam.
