Kicking off the summer

Sam Bond's is holding a Summer Send Off show on Friday. The Shifts, Stubborn Son and Critical Shakes will help kick off the summer touring season at Sam Bond's Garage at 407 Blair Blvd. Eugene's The Shifts are a three-piece indie rock/garage pop band. Seattle rock band Stubborn Son just started recording new songs, following its debut album, "Birthright." Eugene's Critical Shakes play "high energy volume sweat rock," a combo of garage rock with punk and indie rock. The show starts at 9:30 p.m. It's $5 at the door. Playing jazz by ear

The David Blake Jazz Trio, from Vancouver, B.C., brings its contemporary improvisational jazz to Roaring Rapids Pizza Company on Monday. Blake - who is a jazz guitar instructor at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music - leads the trio, joined by Lyle Hopkins on bass and Ken Mastrogiovanni on drums. Blake's group played at the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2015, getting nominated for emerging artist of the year and composer of the year. The free show is 7:30 p.m.
