two turkey shoots set
The Cottage Grove-Eugene Sportsmen's Club will hold its annual turkey shoots Nov. 22 and Dec. 13 at its facility four miles south of Creswell, 81078 N. Pacific Highway. Competition will be held in trap, skeet and 5-stand, in addition to other games. Cost is $35 for four games, and each entrant is guaranteed to win at least one turkey. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and shooting starts at 10 a.m. Ear and eye protection will be required, and shells will be available at the club. For more information, call 541-554-5957.
state trail nomination
Hikers have until Nov. 30 to nominate their favorite Oregon trails for state designation as part of an effort to expand the network of non-motorized routes that showcase the state's best trail experiences. The Oregon Recreation Trails Advisory Council is accepting nominations in two categories: scenic and regional. To nominate a trail, or for more information, visit 1.usa.gov/1OyI62h.
Galapagos talk slated
Dr. Nora Terwilliger, professor emerita of the UO's Oregon Institute of Marine Biology in Charleston, will deliver a free lecture about the Galapagos Islands at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Room 100 of Willamette Hall on the Oregon campus. Terwilliger's talk, titled "Curious Galapagos: Who lives where, and why," is presented by the Eugene Natural History Society.
