Bread basics

Beginning bakers can learn to make four easy artisan breads in a two-day class offered by OSU Extension Service Master Food Preservers on Friday and Saturday. Participants in Make Your Own Artisan Breads will learn, with hands-on and one-on-one help, to create ciabatta (artisan white), 100 percent whole-wheat, sourdough oatmeal and quick white batter breads, and will take samples home. Also, instructions will be given on how to make Sfincione, a special focaccia, and a dressed-up corn bread, which will be served with soup and dessert for lunch that is included in the workshop. The class will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at FOOD for Lane County, 770 Bailey Hill Road. Cost is $60.
