Hitting the trails

More than 200 racers and recreational cyclists are expected to converge in Westfir on July 13 for the Tour of Aufderheide, the second jewel in the Oregon Triple Crown cycling series. In its second year, the event sends riders winding and climbing their way through lush forests along the Aufderheide Scenic Drive. Cyclists can choose The Alpine (100 miles, 5,800-foot elevation gain, $90), Box Canyon (64 miles, 2,664 feet, $90) or Kiahanie (10 to 40 miles, $40, $10 for under-18) routes. The registration fee includes a post-ride meal and beverage. Cyclists must be an Oregon Bicycle Racing Association member (one-day memberships are $2 during the online registration process). Race includes aid stations, support vehicles and mechanical support. To register or for more info, visit dark30sports.com. The final race in the triple crown series will be the Oregon Coast Gravel Epic in Waldport on Aug. 23.
