Short track mountain bike races with divisions for different levels of men, women and youth riders will be held Saturday at Bloomberg Park, off 30th Avenue in Eugene. The Tense-N-Grity event, organized by the local nonprofit mountain bike club Disciples of Dirt, begins at 8:30 a.m. Racing begins at 10:30 a.m. Organizers say the event, constructed and run on a city owned piece of land, is the first of its kind to be approved by the city. Fees for the first race is $20, and $15 for juniors and for Oregon Bicycle Racing Association members. Non-members can join for a single day for $5. A kiddie race for those 10 and younger is free. NEW GOATS
Going hiking at Mount Jefferson? Watch out for goats. Twenty-four Rocky Mountain goats (14 nannies, one adult billy, six yearling nannies, two female kids and one male kid) were released at the mountain's base last week. They were caught in Baker County and released by ODFW and the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, whose land they were released on. The herd is managed by the tribes, which can hunt them once 50 or more have been sustained for five years.
