The American Pharmacists Association recommends ridding your medicine cabinet of all unused and expired medications. Some tips:

Medications should be stored in a secured area - out of site of children and teens - that has low humidity, a stable temperature and adequate lighting.

Dispose of anything expired.

Dispose of anything not used in the past year or that you don't need.

Dispose of medicines that are not in their original container or that have changed color or odor.

Don't flush medications or pour them down a drain. Put them in the trash or dispose through a medication disposal program.
