Buyer to close Aermotor Conway plant. (Industry).

Aermotor Pumps Inc. of Conway was bought out last week by competitor Sta-Rite Industries of Milwaukee, which plans to shut it down as soon as it can under federal regulations, according to a spokesman for Sta-Rite's parent company, Wisconsin Energy Corp.,

More than 100 people work at the Conway plant.

Aermotor, a part of GSW Inc. of Ontario, Canada, posted sales of $50 million last year, exporting to more than 20 countries. A purchase price was not disclosed.

The company manufactures water pumps and pump accessories for a variety of applications, including potable water, agriculture and irrigation, sump drainage, and sewage and effluent for the residential, industrial, commercial and mining markers. Aermotor also has small distribution offices at Longwood, Fla.; Portland Ore.; and Waterloo, Ontario, that also will be shut down.

A spokesman for Sta-Rite said consolidating the operations of both companies into existing Sta-Rite plants made the most economic sense.

Wisconsin Energy is a $8.4 billion, publicly traded holding company with utility and nonutility subsidiaries.
