Button and Smith in medal bid.

THE Welsh bowls pair of Anwen Button and Hannah Smith will be looking for medal glory today when they tackle Malaysia in the semi-finals. The duo defeated New Zealand in the quarter-final pairs play-off to set up the showdown. "We just need to keep playing well with full concentration and dedication," said Smith. "They are extremely strong players and the next game is going to be tough." The men's triples of Chris Blake, Michael Fleming and Marc Wyatt just missed out on their medal bid after losing to England in the battle for third place. The trio had defeated Guernsey in the quarter-finals to set up a semi-final against South Africa which they lost and left them with the medal match against the English team of Rob Newman, Graham Shad and Mark Bantock. The singles group tournament has started with Carol Difford losing 2-0 to England's Natalie Melmore.
