Butterfield Fulcrum sets up hedge fund transparency service.
Butterfield Fulcrum is partnering with Risk Fundamentals, a financial software firm, to offer a service to provide risk analytics to fund managers and align fund managers and investors' risk reporting requirements.
Butterfield said the service provides cost-effective transparency reporting to investors without revealing investment level data and, in addition to traditional VaR (value at risk) assessments, measures liquidity and leverage, the primary sources of hedge fund collapse.
"As independent administrators we sit at the junction where transparency and confidentiality have traditionally opposed each other," said Akshaya Bhargava, Butterfield Fulcrum's CEO. "This product delivers a service that finally bridges the transparency divide and accommodates the requirements of investors and fund managers alike."
Butterfield added that the incorporation of the service into the Butterfield Fulcrum technology infrastructure allows for the provision of cost effective risk reporting to fund managers and investors. Reports are produced from independently reconciled data, across multiple prime brokers if necessary. It added that "It is the goal to provide transparency and independence, which are important elements to the fundraising efforts of alternative investment funds."
