Butcher doc cash row.

PRESSURE was growing on Health Secretary Alan Milburn yesterday to block pension payments to "butcher" surgeon Rodney Ledward.

The Department of Health has agreed to see if it is possible to stop Ledward getting any more cash from the NHS pension fund, although its strict rules may prevent such a move.

A damning report revealed that the surgeon, who called himself "the fastest gynaecologist in the south east", had botched operations on women over a period of 16 years.

Claims that Ledward's pension is Pounds 50,000 a year have not been denied.

Ashford MP Damian Green said his constituents were angry that Ledward was still reaping the benefit of having been an NHS doctor.

BMA spokesman Dr Peter Hawker said Ledward had been "incompetent and arrogant" and deserved to have his pension taken away.
