Busy new Cardiff play centre looks to expand.

Jon Ellis, owner of Cardiff's newest soft play centre, Mambo, says he's confident the business will smash forecasted sales if it stays as busy as it currently is. The play centre is looking to extend its 8,000sq ft premises by an additional 4,000sq ft to increase capacity.

Mambo officially opened its doors on January 15 and has nine staff. It's been an instant success with parents which have been quick to post glowing reviews on the play centre's facebook page - Mambo is open seven days a week and caters for all ages from babies up to 12 year olds, with free entry for children under one. It also runs party packages. Its cafe serves freshly made food, snacks and 'the best coffee around'.

Mambo is one of the latest Welsh businesses to benefit from the Welsh Government Graduate Support Scheme (GSS). The Cardiff-based play centre was awarded a PS6,000 graduate bursary through the scheme which it used to help get started.

It was helped with the bursary application by business support provider Business in Focus which delivers the Welsh Government business start-up service.

Mambo business owner Jon Ellis said: "Alun Richards, my business adviser has been a huge help. I was very naive about business before I contacted Business in Focus and Alun has been an inspiration, especially in terms of helping me with the business plan. Alun went through all of my finances and also helped me in terms of the legalities of the business.

"Our priority is to provide a safe and hygienic environment for kids to play in and have fun. We make sure that every customer goes out happy - we must be doing something right as we're packed everyday. I'd always wanted to work for myself. It's hard work, 12-14 hours a day, but it's worth it, especially when you have Business in Focus there to support you," continued Mr Ellis.

Mambo is located at: Unit 3 Freemans Parc, Penarth Road, Cardiff CF11 8EQ and it can be contacted at or 07454 795032.
