Busy bank holiday getaway.

THE spring bank holiday weekend is set to be the busiest on the roads in three years, a motoring organisation has warned.

More than 15.3 million individual leisure car journeys are expected to take place between Friday and Monday, the RAC said.

A survey of nearly 1,700 motorists' plans suggested that Saturday will be the busiest day with 4.5 million trips, followed by Friday (3.9 million), Sunday (3.6 million) and Monday (3.3 million).

RAC traffic spokesman Rod Dennis said: "It looks as though a late spring getaway is a little more appealing to motorists this year than last - with the reasonably settled weather perhaps being one factor that is contributing to the desire by many to escape in the car.

"We recommend drivers plan their trips carefully and try to avoid the busiest times."
