A survey from the Electronic Commerce Promotion Council and Japan and Anderson Consulting has found that the market for business-to-consumer e-commerce grew by four times to JPY248bn in 1999 compared to 1998.

The total figure was found to increase to JPY336bn with the addition of real estate and automobiles and real estate were found to make the biggest contribution to the total, with PCs and related products ranking below these.

Financial products, though not making the biggest contribution to revenue, were found to have increased the greatest, followed by foods and services.

The two companies are predicting that by 2003 the eCommerce market will have increased to about JPY4.4 trillion including real estate, and to JPY6.7 trillion by 2004.
