Business as usual.

Europe's leadership of IT industry growth, established in May, was short lived, as the US-dominated global index regained poll position in June. According to the Infoconomy Index, growth at a global level held steady at 9.5% - roughly where it has been for the last four months. But European companies' results were up by 8.5% on average, down from a peak of 9.8% in May.

The worldwide figure was buoyed by strong performances by several IT heavyweights, whereas the results for European-headquartered companies were as scarce as they were lacklustre. The largest global player reporting in June was South African network integration services company Dimension Data, which grew revenues for the first half of fiscal 2005 by 15% to $1.3 billion.

Another big hitter, document and image processing software vendor Adobe Systems showed even greater growth, with its second fiscal quarter showing a revenue rise of 21% to $496.0 million.

Meanwhile, there were contrasting performances in the design software market. CAD products company Autodesk reported a 19% hike in revenues to $355.1 million, but tipping the scales in the other direction was electronic design automation supplier Synopsis, where revenues dropped 17%.

On the European front, Scandinavian IT services provider WM-data posted a humdrum 6% growth in the six months to the end of March, with revenues of $276.9 million.

The Infoconomy 200 Index measures the overall growth rate of the IT industry by tracking the financial results of the world's most important publicly listed IT companies.
