Highlighting this software update is the inclusion of a self-study program, recommended for 12 accounting CPE credits. Essential Software is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy as a CPE sponsor. The program's new manual provides extensive coverage of IRS Revenue Rulings and court cases. Valuation topics discussed include: the development of capitalization rates and weighting schemes, selection of comparable companies, selection of premiums and discounts, valuation of preferred stock, and more. Issues related to specific valuation methods such as the selection of multipliers, use of pre-tax or after tax income and gross or net assets, forecasting cash flow and earnings are also examined. The software provides eight IRS and industry recognized valuation methods Adjusted Net Assets, Capitallzation of Earnings, Price/Earnings Ratio, Dividend Payout, Excess Earnings-Return on Assets, Excess EarningsReturn on Sales, Discounted Cash Flow, Discounted Earnings) and a combination method. It includes over 50 built-in rule of thumb/industry specific methods providing the means to develop valuations for companies where other methodologies are inappropriate. Users can also develop their own valuation formulas and variations of standard methods and automatically integrate them into the program. Client reports are enhanced by such features as a foot-noting capability to detail and record adjustments and assumptions, printable, modifiable method explanations, etc. Another feature of this software is a special valuation checklist.
