ANGLO-US jewellery group Signet, which includes the H Samuel chain, announced a 3% like-forlike sales increase in the crucial eight weeks to Christmas Eve at its UK arm.

Its Ernest Jones shops achieved a sparkling 7.3% boost, but H Samuel only managed a 0.4% improvement in a ``demanding market place,'' said chief executive Terry Burman. STATE carrier Malaysia Airlines has agreed to buy six Airbus A380superjumbo jets worth up to pounds 1bn, the plane maker said today. The Airbus factory at Broughton, near Chester, makes wings for all Airbus aircraft. The 555-seat A380 will be the world's biggest passenger aircraft when it rolls out in 2006. DEESIDE -based Big Food Group said its struggling Iceland chain performed better over Christmas.

Like-forlike sales were down 2.1% in the five weeks to January 3, compared with a dip of 3.6% for the 13 weeks to December 27. HOUSE BUILDER Bellway, with a luxury flats scheme in Liverpool's Pall Mall and plans to open a Liverpool office soon, revealed a record order book of pounds 325m at its annual meeting. The group says it is poised to deliver ``another good set of results for the year ending July 31, 2003.''
