Busch Triathlon set for its 10th year.

Busch beer will join forces with hundreds of triathletes when it presents the 10th annual Mountain Man Winter Triathlon on February 1 near Vail, CO.

During its 10-year history, the Mountain Man Winter Triathlon has grown from five to more than 200 competitors, according to an Anheuser-Busch, Inc., spokesperson. The event has attracted some of the country's top winter and summer triathletes and has gained a reputation as the premier winter triathlon in the country.

The event begins at the base of the Beaver Creek Ski Resort in Avon, meanders through the adjacent Arrowhead ski area for part of the snowshoe stage, then descends to Avon's Nottingham Lake for the 12.4 miles of speed skating. The course covers 36.75 miles with an ascent of 6,300 feet, and a descent of 7,020.

Among the participants already scheduled to take part in the event are former champions Cheryl Chipman and Kirsten Hansen. On the men's side, two-time winner Andreas Boessel and former champ Dawes Wilson are slated to compete, as is defending champion Russell of Boulder.

"We are pleased to be involved with this event, which many regard as the toughest of all winter sports competitions," said Bill Braun, Busch brand manager.

The triathlon offers a total cash purse of $4,000 to top finishers in both individual and team competition. Awards will be given to the top 10 men and women; to the top three teams: men, women and mixed; and to the top three men and women in each age group.
