Bursting the bubble.

As a gay Palestinian, I was intrigued with your "Jew and Arab in love" cover but appalled by what you chose to publish ["The Boys in the Bubble," September 11]. In this film, everyone, including the Arab costar, is actually an Israeli citizen. Hollywood abandoned blackface and war paint on whites years ago-apparently not The Advocate when Israelis portray Palestinians in 2007. As movies don't always accurately reflect reality, your accompanying article about LGBT life in the Holy Land could have set the record straight, so to speak. Appropriately, an Israeli discusses LGBT life in Israel. Why then do you ask an Israeli and not a Palestinian to comment on gay life in Palestine? Would The Advocate print a KKK member's slander on African-Americans, a Nazi on Jewish life, or the religious right on gay issues? Needless to say, your author's racist comments on Palestine's gay life do not match my or other Palestinians' LGBT experience. Gay life in Palestine, as elsewhere, is evolving as we tell the truth about ourselves.

CHRIS BARGHOUT, Portland, Ore.

In answer to your question on the cover of the September 11 issue, love between a Jewish man and an Arab man will have no effect on the problems of the Middle East. This is because the problems are caused by the Israeli government's confiscation of Palestine and its eviction of the original landowners in an attempt to create a Jewish-majority homeland to escape discrimination everywhere else in the world.

NICHOLAS KYRIAZI, Pittsburgh, Pa.

I cannot believe you put two young guys with body hair--and no manscaping--on your September 11 cover. What a unique and wonderful concept. I thought all gay guys shaved or styled their chest hair! Thanks for taking this "natural" approach to your cover!
