A man who killed a reclusive coin collector by stuffing a sock down his throat has been cleared ofmurder.

Anthony Bubbins was found dead in Paul Paget's house with his hands behind his back, a pillow over his face and lying 'half off and half on' a mattress.

This week, a jury at Newport CrownCourttook seven hours to rule find Paul Paget not guilty of the murder of 57-year-old Anthony Bubbins.

He will be sentenced for manslaughter, as well as burglary, later this week.

The court was told he was a "vulnerable person who lived a reclusive life" collecting coins and other items of value.

Mr Bubbins had last been seen on January 9 this year, six days before his body was found by officers visiting Paget on January 15.

His killer was later found in Devon, where he had fled, with several items belonging to Mr Bubbins in his car.

Officers discovered ornaments, a football shirt, house keys, and a fake Rolex watch among other items.

Paget admitted stealing from at Mr Bubbins' home in the days before the body was found.

CCTV showed him making his way towards Christchurch Road during those days.

He was also seen visiting buy and sell shops in Newport and Cwmbran where he sold items thought to belong to Mr Bubbins.

But Paget, 54, denied the "calculated murder plot" alleged by the prosecution.

He told the jury he had accidentally killed Mr Bubbins in an argument.

Justice Simon Picken thanked the jury for their service and told Paget he would be adjourning his sentence until next week.

He will be sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, June 29.
