Burglar's family wins pounds 46,000 award.

The family of a burglar who was electrocuted when he tried to break into a bar in Illinois after-hours and triggered a home-made booby trap has been awarded pounds 46,000 to be paid by the bar owners.

Larry Harris was wrong to try to break in to George O's Place, in Aurora, but the owners had to share responsibility for his death, the jury decided.

Frustrated after three burglaries in a month at his bar, landlord Jessie Ingram installed a system that would give anyone breaking in a strong shock. He then posted several warnings outside, including one outside the window Harris broke in through.

But drunk and high on cocaine, Harris, aged 37, either did not see or ignored the warnings. He forced open a rear window and crawled in, triggering the home-made booby trap just five days after it was installed.
