Bungling Ivan plea for crew.

Byline: GEOFFREY LAKEMAN

HAPLESS sailor Ivan Rusch yesterday appealed for a shipmate brave enough to sail across the Bay of Biscay with him.

The 78-year-old American, nicknamed Ivan the Terrible after being rescued five times in a fortnight, now accepts he needs a crew.

He sailed across the Atlantic trouble free with crewmate Robert Tripicchio, 23, but he left in Sweden to go backpacking.

Now Ivan needs someone to help him sail sloop Ornaerie from Plymouth to the Mediterranean.

He said: "I am not as strong or as quick as I used to be and sometimes I have problems, especially with the terrible weather we have had this month in the Channel.

"I sailed from California without any problems but then Richard went off chasing these European women and I was left to sail single-handed.

"I don't think I am a menace but I get the impression that the British coastguards want me off their patch. All I need is a good crew."
