Bundled SME software; is it for you?

Summary: Wassim Hassanieh, Managing Director of ProCons explains how bundled software solutions can benefit your company

Are there many companies offering complete software solutions for SMEs?

There are a lot of companies offering an ERP solution, however only a very few offer a stable and complete ERP solution in the market. For us a complete ERP is an ERP that covers the needs of the SME, helps generate a quick ROI, and makes them run better. The concept of a complete ERP differs from one company to another depending on their business, for example, for trading businesses a complete ERP means having the following: Finance, CRM, sales, inventory management, MRP, fixed assets, logistics, procurements, while a production company will need in addition to the latter, production planning and production management.

In general, there are some excellent ERP solutions in the market and we are proud to say that the ERP solutions (SAP Business One & NetSuite) that we offer to our clients in the Middle East on premise and on cloud can offer complete solutions to most of our clients.

Can consolidating software actually reduce costs in the long term? Or are companies paying out the same amount for bundled software?

Consolidated software can definitely reduce costs. It is proven that consolidating software can reduce your IT operating cost by at least 30 per cent, and can provide a higher return on investment. It is proven that every $1 spent on a consolidated, good ERP can provide a return of $7.30 once used efficiently. With a consolidated ERP a company can reduce integration costs, hardware costs and support costs.

What are the problems of having bundled software as compared to unbundled software?

We would rather not call them problems. Unbundled software are more focused and may do a certain job better that bundled software. However, the concept of having a consolidated ERP solution can make the whole operation run better. We are living in an era where access to consolidated data at the right time is key and such data can be only generated through having a complete bundled ERP with the right technology and business intelligence tools.

1. Search for an integrated software solution.

2. Look for a strong software provider that you will know will stay with you for the next 10 years.

3. The solution provider should believe in R&D and should have a clear five year roadmap for the product.

4. Do not consider price as a main decision factor, you must be getting good value for your money.

5. Look for a vendor that has a good support platform.
