Bumper crop will spruce up Christmas; ADVERTISEMENT FEATURE.

ONE of the North East's biggest Christmas tree suppliers is bracing itself for a delivery of more than 7,000 festive trees.

The bumper crop is the largest the Edelweiss Christmas Tree Company, based in Double Row, near Seaton Delaval, has ever undertaken in the run-up to Christmas.

Company boss Harry Laidler said: "The demand for a real Christmas tree has never been greater, which is why we've gone overboard this year. We've been selling trees for 13 years, and every year we've had to buy more in to satisfy demand. This year we've had a mountain of enquiries and we expect to sell in excess of 7,000 in the run-up to Christmas."

Harry puts the increased demand down to a mix of popular fashion and a return to traditional values.

"There's something special about going out and choosing you perfect Christmas tree," said Harry. "Modern families are very discerning, and are looking for a tree that best suits their home.

The Edelweiss Christmas Tree > Company has 7,000 Christmas trees to choose from, as well a Santa's grotto every weekend providing fun for all the family "There was a time when they'd settle for a simple Norway Spruce. Now they want a greater choice, which is why we're bringing in a wide variety of trees from the Fraser Fir to the Lodge-pole Pine. They not only look great but they smell fantastic too.

"Buying a Christmas tree is an event, which is why at the weekends we've put on a free grotto featuring Santa giving out gifts as well as complimentary mulled wine and mince pies for the parents."

The Edelweiss Christmas Tree Company operates from Laidler's Fruit and Vegetable Suppliers based in Double Row, near Seaton Delaval, Northumberland.

Santa's Grotto is open 10am-4pm, on Saturdays and 11am-3pm on Sundays. For more information contact Edelweiss Christmas Tree Company tel: 0191 237 7887 or visit www.edelweiss-trees.com
