Bulgaria FM: Assad to Blame for Al-Qaeda in Syria.

The regime of Bashar Al-Assad is to be held responsible for the radicalization of rebels fighting against it, said Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Mladenov.

In an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio Saturday, Mladenov said that in all cases of violence in a country, the ones to be first held responsible are the official authorities.

Asked to comment reports that radicals from Al-Qaeda are already operating amongst Syrian rebels, the Bulgarian Foreign Minister said that ultimately the Assad regime is to blame.

Mladenov did not specify, as asked, whether he thinks such a development presents an increased terrorist threat for Bulgaria.

"We continue to uphold the position that the conflict in Syria must be resolved as soon as possible, and the preconditions for that are the immediate cessation of violence and withdrawal of the Assad regime from power," stated he.

Mladenov also reiterated Bulgaria's strong condemnetion of Wednesday night's incident, in which a Syrian shell fell onto Turkish territory and killed five Turkish civilians.
