Building futures in The Gambia; As well as its dedication to academic support, Newman allows students to become conscious of their place in the world through their participation in numerous charitable partnerships. Here, we want to shine a light on a few of our programmes that we feel are helping to make a difference to the world.

Building futures in The Gambia BFiG) is a small charity developing sustainable projects in the rural parts the country. Specifically, these projects focus on the building of schools and libraries as centres for education and community formation.

association with BFiG, Newman University students have been visiting and supporting these projects for over ten years.

Recognising the power of sport, Newman University Golf is now contributing to this work. We are building a partnership with local schools and Fajara Golf Club, a community course run by staff who caddie predominantly for tourists.

Through this partnership we aim to promote participation in the game as medium for youth development and community engagement. This exciting project aims to support participation through the provision of appropriate equipment and eventually training for staff.

Newman University students have been helping in The Gambia for more than a decade
